In 2016 I decided to quit my job and drive around the country for a few weeks. I decided, for the poetry of it, to start in Washington, DC on Inauguration Day.

I slept in my car, bought a tent in Savannah and camped in State and National Parks, and on the couches of generous friends. I made a point to slow down, think about America outside the sphere and hubbub of the media cycle, and just take photos and write.

These are some of my favorite photos from the trip. You can find more at and updates from 3 legs of my journey: Raleigh to Savannah, New Orleans, and Austin to Denver.
